Categories chosen on evidence
For each of your main searches we record the categories used by the three listings Google shows first, then settle on a primary and supporting categories that truthfully reflect what you do.
Scroll through the Google.ca suggestions for Fredericton and “open now” keeps coming back: restaurants, pizza, pharmacies, barbershops, bakeries, thrift stores, even plumbers. Anyone who adds those two words has stopped browsing. They want to know who is open, how far away it is and what other customers said, and the map panel supplies all three before a single website has loaded. That panel is where Google Maps SEO does its work.
So the small facts on your profile carry real weight. Hours must be right for each weekday and every holiday. The pin must land on your real entrance, which takes care when you are one of many tenants in Regent Mall, Brookside Mall or Kings Place. Photos ought to help a stranger spot your door, above all in winter, when a snowbank can hide a sign and overnight street parking is off limits from 1 October to 31 May.
Weather belongs in the job description. The city averages about 215 cm of snow a year, and in spring the Saint John River can climb high enough to shut roads, as it did in 2018, when about 80 roads and bridges closed. On days like that, people open the map to find out whether you are trading. A profile that shows a storm closure promptly, then clears it the next morning, builds a kind of trust that a neglected one slowly loses.
Search demand
Google.ca suggestions from 4 October 2026. Every modifier points at a detail your profile should already have right: hours, a mall, a street or a side of the river.
Tally how many of those searches turn on open now, hours or today, and how many name a centre such as Brookside Mall, Kings Place or Regent Mall. A listing showing last season’s hours, or a pin parked in the middle of an asphalt lot, misses every one of them however many stars it has. That is why Google Maps SEO starts with hours, holiday and storm closures, the pin and the address line in the first month. Climbing the rankings comes afterwards.
Look here first
Set out in the order we usually examine them.
Inside a shopping centre or a strip of units, Google may stack every tenant on a single central point. Customers then circle the lot in January hunting for you. Dragging the pin onto your own entrance and adding the unit or centre name to the address line solves most of it.
Owners remember to mark a storm day as closed and forget to reverse it, or never post it in the first place. Either way the map misleads people. Special hours entered for that date alone, and checked the next morning, prevent both mistakes.
After a relocation, say from uptown to a downtown storefront or from one riverbank to the other, the earlier profile often lingers. Reviews end up scattered across both, and Google has no clear signal about which location is live. Flagging the old one as relocated or shut tidies it up.
Contractors, cleaners and snow-clearing crews working out of Hanwell or Keswick Ridge sometimes display a home address as if customers could walk in. Google’s service-area rules expect such a business to hide that address and list the communities it covers instead.
The profile appears in your dashboard while the public sees nothing, because verification stalled or was triggered again by an edit. It is simple to overlook and quick to fix once spotted.
The work
For each of your main searches we record the categories used by the three listings Google shows first, then settle on a primary and supporting categories that truthfully reflect what you do.
Street, unit and centre name entered identically everywhere, with the pin placed on the door customers really use, on whichever bank you trade.
Regular hours, statutory holidays, any Saturday-market adjustments, and special hours for snow days or flood closures, posted ahead of time or as events unfold.
The storefront from the street, the entrance from the parking lot, the sign and the interior, photographed in more than one season so a newcomer recognises you under snow as well as in July.
A QR card at the till or a link in your receipt email for customers who offer to help, and a personal response to every review, posted within days and sounding like you rather than a template.
Public edit suggestions, freshly created duplicates and sudden dips in calls or direction requests flagged and handled before a busy weekend.
Done carefully
Standards we follow for every client, set out so you can check us against them.
When Google suspends a listing, every review, call button and route request vanishes along with it. Tricks are not worth that gamble.
Packing “Fredericton” or a list of services into the business name, passing off a mailbox as a shop, or trading discounts for reviews can lift a listing for a few weeks before Google pulls it. We stay inside Google’s published guidelines, so your Google Maps SEO holds its value year after year.

Questions
Put the unit number or the centre’s name in the address line, then drag the map marker onto your own door. Add photos shot from the closest mall entrance, then name it in your description for newcomers.
Yes. Google lets you set special hours for one date, so your normal schedule stays untouched. Post the closure as soon as you decide, then lift it when you reopen, or send us a quick message and we will handle it.
If the address on your existing profile is updated, the reviews stay attached. Trouble begins when a second profile is created at the new location. In that case we ask Google to merge or close the older one, depending on the circumstances.
Yes, set up as a service-area business. You hide the street address and list the places you cover, such as Oromocto or Hanwell. Although Google ranks these profiles a little differently, they still appear on the map.
First, resist creating a replacement, because that usually deepens the problem. Then we find the probable cause, correct it, and apply for reinstatement with evidence such as a business registration and photos of your signage.
No. We treat Google Maps SEO as one strand of local SEO, so it rides along in whichever tier you pick, Starter, Growth or Pro at $250, $350 or $550 monthly (CAD). Leaving takes nothing more than notice before the next month begins.
